I stumbled across this amazing recycled clock from Apartment Therapy and I just had to share it! I would love to make one but I can’t seem to find clock kit that is affordable (anyone know where I can find one?) Tutorial below!!
- About 24 sheets of junk mail (magazine sheets, grocery store ads, newspaper, etc just make sure they are all the same size
- Pen or pencil
- Scissors
- Clear tape
- A long yarn needle
- Embroidery floss
- two clear CDs (the kind that protect your CD 50 packs)
- Cardstock
- Battery-operated clock mechanism with hands
Steps!
1. To make a clock, you will need 24 tubes of rolled up paper. Use your pencil or pen, and roll up the sheet of paper around it.
3. Fold approximately one third of the tube towards the other end.
4. Take a a yarn needle and thread the floss through it. Pierce the folded end of the tube.
5. Thread the floss through the first end again, creating a “knot” that will prevent the thread from slipping through. Then start to sew the additional 23 tubes onto your clock.
6.Once done, you should have a full circle.
7. Take one of your clear CDs and place the middle hole that forms naturally in the center of the starburst. This will be the back of the clock.
8. Take your battery-operated clock mechanism and place the rod that holds the hands into the starburst and clear CD holes.
9. Flip the clock over and place the other clear CD above the hole on the other side. Cut a paper circle with a hole and place over the CD and screw in the nut!
11. Add your hands and you are done!!!

Thats a cool idea! I turned my junk mail into something else… into repurposed washi tape! Pictures and how-to here: http://crafting-dreams.blogspot.com/2011/10/simple-diy-japanese-washi-tape.html
No need for a proper clock it. Just buy a check clock. A dollar store or somewhere you could get one really cheaply.
