White, white teeth :)

So with midterms almost over, the amount of coffee and tea I have been drinking has made my teeth not the whitest. I have a cheap and ecofriendly solution to whitening that doesn’t have all those chemicals found in the whitening strips/kits.

First- I LOVE that picture of the lipstick!

2nd- My teeth are starting to show the effects of examination caffeine binging too. Will it work if I use sugar instead? On the other hand, that's pretty much just swishing with lemonade, now isn't it?

ahahah yeah that's basically lemonade and I'm pretty sure doing that daily will just give you cavities!

lemon juice ruins your enamel. Super bad for your teeth.

  4. Vanessa says:

oh, I did not know that. I'll add that in there, thank you :)

I’ve heard that baking soda is good for this as well! Just make a paste with water, and brush!

Since lemon juice is so bad for your teeth, you’re better off using hydrogen peroxide, which doesn’t burn when you use it (unless you have an open sore in your mouth). It’s the whitening ingredient usually used in teeth whiting products anyway.

I know that strawberries are a natural teeth whitener.

Directions: Crush the strawberry to a pulp, then mix with the baking soda until blended. Use a soft toothbrush to spread the mixture onto your teeth. Leave on for 5 minutes, then brush thoroughly with toothpaste to remove the berry–baking soda mix. Rinse. (A little floss will help get rid of any strawberry seeds.) you can apply once a week.

I would never use lemon on my teeth. In fact my dentist says don’t even have lemon put into your diet drinks or water as it destroys the enamel on your teeth.

Use hydrogen peroxide on a q-tip and rub on your teeth just before brushing. I do this every other day and my teeth are WHITE!

I’m not sure about the danger to using lemon on your teeth but I know for a fact the dangers to using hydrogen peroxide, not only in your mouth but anywhere. It is actually highly genotoxic, meaning that it can alter the DNA in your cells which can be very dangerous. Once in awhile is okay, but I wouln’t use it that often.

I have also heard that hydrogen peroxide works well!

I used a mixture of 1 Tbsp peroxide & 2.2 Tbsp baking soda as a nail whitener, which I’ll bet would work on teeth too!

As a dental hygienist, I would never recommend swishing with lemon or citric jucies. It is very, very bad for your teeth, even if only done a couple times per year.

Lemon juice with salt and a little water with some ice cubes also clean your coffe pots. Just pour it all in the carafe, and swirl around, and it is all sparkly clean! :)
